Laker employee Sophie Squirrell is beginning her Gas Operative ‘Managed Learning Programme’ later this month with Nescot Gas Academy, and we would all like to wish her the very best of luck.
We wanted to share Sophie’s story as although the number of women in the labour market has been rising steadily since the 1970s, less than 5% work in skilled trades, such as electrics, plumbing, plastering and gas. Depending on the trade, men will outnumber women in these areas by at least ten to one.

Here at Laker, we are proud to be at the forefront of new technologies and emerging sectors, and we are always looking to be a leader of innovation. Our sister company social enterprise ‘Safe and Found Online’ is a shining example of this.
Established in 2018, Safe and Found Online is based on the ‘The Herbert Protocol’ which allows carers and people living with dementia to complete a form recording all vital details of their family member or friend, in the event of them going missing, it can then be handed to police to reduce time in gathering this information.

Laker will provide a team of local service and maintenance engineers to complete a range of services for the Royal Borough of Greenwich properties including; industrial estates, shops, offices, schools, parks and open spaces, leisure and community centres and libraries.

A Scout hut in Radford will have a £20,000 refurbishment to help prepare for Coventry’s Gang Show.
This year will have the 57th Gang Show in the city, where scouts and guides stage a variety performance to showcase a wide range of talents.
Laker are part of the team from HomeWorks, the in-house repairs and maintenance provider for Whitefriars Housing, that will lead a renovation at the Satchwell Centre, in Mossdale Close.

Laker staff pulled out their baking dishes to raise an impressive £205 for Macmillan Cancer Support. Organised by our own Rebecca Doherty and Shelley Foti, the Laker staff baked over 20 different cakes and the coffee morning was well attended. Some of the team really did showcase some very impressive baking skills, with Red Velvet Cup Cakes baked by IT Manager Karl Arthur winning ‘Star Baker’ for our Midlands Team, and Savoury Cheese, Ham and Mustard Puffs by Sam Perugini our Contracts Administrator in the South.

The procurement body Fusion21 has named 37 firms for frameworks to support housing associations and local authorities with a wide range of reactive maintenance works.
Twenty-four firms have been named preferred partners for the Reactive Repairs & Maintenance Framework and Laker are pleased to have been named one of them.
